Fruits of the Spirit
Can the fruit
of the Spirit be grown in the absence of the supernatural work of the Holy
Spirit in an individual`s life? Can you discern
between real fruit and false fruit? These are questions that the Lord has posed
to me in the past. This is an attempt to answer them.
I do not
believe that true fruit can be obtained in an individual without the active,
supernatural work of the Holy Spirit in their life. True fruit will grow from a
seed of life. This is the life of Jesus as birthed by the Spirit of Life, the
Holy Spirit. This seed will bring forth seed after it's
own kind that is the fruit of the Spirit. When others partake of this fruit
they will partake of divine life and divine life will be the result. Much of
the "fruit" that we see in the church is the artificial kind, that is
it looks like fruit, feels like fruit, and may even smell like fruit but when
you taste it something is wrong. It's wax shaped by external pressures to
conform to the shape of fruit. It glistens like real fruit when the clouds and
rain come, that is the anointing and blessings of God come. However, when the
fire of God comes this kind of fruit begins to melt. Real
fruit fruit when baked begins to release a savory
aroma that makes the mouth water and increases the desire for it. False fruit
comes about by conformation not transformation, "be not conformed to this
world but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind...".
That is the individual is lead to conform to an ideal, or image often a Godly
image by modifying his behavior, but it will not stand the test of fire, or
persecution. This is a form of idolatry and hypocrisy, in which the individual
or group are conformed to an image not transformed into nature of Jesus. The
work of the Holy Spirit is to form Jesus within us by the transformation of our
old nature into His nature. This cannot be accomplished by teaching,
indoctrination or behavior modification. This is only accomplished by
deliverance, healing and the putting to death of our old nature. This is the
work of the Holy Spirit. Where the Spirit is there is Life and good, true
fruit.
